ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 Schedule Overview

The ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 is a cricket tournament that is part of the 2023 Cricket World Cup qualification process. This is the first edition of the tournament and is being played from August 2019 to March 2023. All matches are being played as One Day Internationals (ODIs) and are being contested as tri-series.

The participating teams are Scotland, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the top four teams from the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. The first round of fixtures took place in Aberdeen, Scotland in August 2019.

At the end of the tournament, the top three teams will advance to the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament, while the bottom four teams will have to go into the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.

Originally, the top-ranked team in the CWC League 2 was intended to be promoted to the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, at the expense of its 13th ranked team, if the League 2 team finished as the higher of the two in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The team ranked lower would then have played in the next edition of League 2. However, in November 2021, the ICC announced that there would not be a second edition of the Super League.

If one or both of the bottom two teams in this League 2 competition are outperformed by a top-ranked team from the 2019–2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge Leagues A or B in the 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, they will be relegated to the next Cricket World Cup Challenge League. The two teams that rank higher in the Qualifier Play-off will play in the next League 2, while the two teams that rank lower will play in the next Challenge League.

ICC Cricket World Cup League / Tournament Overview

The ICC Cricket World Cup League is a competition organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for associate and affiliate cricket playing nations. The league consists of two main divisions – Division 2 and Division 3 – with each division consisting of a group of teams that play each other in a round-robin format.

The top teams from each division qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which serves as the main qualifying tournament for the Cricket World Cup, a major international cricket tournament held every four years.

The Cricket World Cup League is intended to provide more opportunities for teams outside of the traditional cricketing nations to compete at a higher level and gain valuable experience. It also helps to improve the competitiveness and quality of cricket in these nations, which can help to grow the sport globally.
