Adam Zampa joins Surrey for T20 Blast campaign, set to feature in four matches

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has signed with Surrey County Cricket Club for four matches in the ongoing T20 Blast, the club confirmed on Friday. Zampa is set to bolster Surrey’s spin attack as they continue their strong run in the competition.

Zampa is scheduled to make his first appearance on Sunday, July 6, during Surrey’s double-header fixture against Essex at the Kia Oval. He will then travel with the side to face Gloucestershire in Bristol, followed by a home fixture under lights against Glamorgan on July 11. His four-match stint will conclude with a high-stakes double-header against current group leaders Somerset on July 13.

If Surrey progress to the knockout stages, Zampa will remain available for both the quarter-finals and Finals Day.

Zampa holds the distinction of being Australia’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals, with 117 wickets to his name. He was the first Australian to reach 100 T20I wickets and played a key role in Australia’s T20 World Cup win in 2021 and 50-over World Cup triumph in 2023.

With over 363 wickets in 298 T20 matches at an average of 21.72, Zampa has earned global recognition through his performances in top franchise leagues such as the IPL, Big Bash League, and The Hundred. He helped the Oval Invincibles clinch back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024.

Surrey, captained by Sam Curran, have had a strong showing so far in the tournament. Their recent string of victories includes a last-ball win over Kent, followed by convincing home wins against Sussex and Middlesex in front of a sold-out Oval crowd.

Alec Stewart, Surrey’s High Performance Cricket Advisor, said, “Adam Zampa is one of the finest T20 spinners in world cricket and I am excited to welcome him to Surrey for the T20 Blast. He brings a wealth of experience and technical skills on the pitch and great character off it.”

Speaking about his return to the Kia Oval, Zampa said, “I cannot wait to get going for Surrey and to play in front of the Kia Oval crowd once again. It’s one of the great grounds in the world to play the game and I know how much playing for Surrey means to the lads, so I am looking forward to seeing what it’s all about.”
