Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on Friday. The violation occurred when Naib showed dissent at an umpire’s decision during Zimbabwe’s innings.
The breach took place in the 11th over of Zimbabwe’s innings when an LBW appeal against Tashinga Musekiwa, off captain Rashid Khan’s bowling, was turned down by the umpire. Frustrated with the decision, Gulbadin Naib expressed dissent by bowing in a mock prayer and calling for a review, even though the Decision Review System (DRS) was not available in the match.

Naib was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This regulation prohibits “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.”
In addition to the fine, a demerit point has been added to Gulbadin Naib’s disciplinary record. This is the first offence recorded against the former Afghanistan captain in the last 24 months.
Naib admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Andy Pycroft, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
The incident occurred during a tightly contested series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. With the series tied at 1-1, the decider is set to take place on Saturday, December 14, at the Harare Sports Club.
