Cricket Players In Profile: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has a spunky personality, bad boy vibes, and is a hero in the Indian Cricket Community.

In his mid-thirties, you would think that the batsman’s teenage antics would be behind him, but this right-handed batter still has tricks up his sleeve.

Virat Kohli’s Recent Batting Performance

We aren’t looking into the past to find Kohli’s talent though. All of our data comes from recent and important matches.

During Test Cricket, Kohli batted 183 innings scoring 8,416 runs and achieving a batting average of 48.93. During the Open Day Internationals that increased to 264 innings, scoring 12,844 runs and achieving a batting average of 57.33.

You would expect the latest cricket odds to reflect highly on batting averages like this, but his World Cup performance dipped to 46.81 on average, and during the Indian Premier League it dipped again to 36.19.

The IPL was a real shock, as Kohli played for 223 minutes and hit 215 innings. Although these figures are similar to the ODI, Kohli only scored 6,624 runs. He played for over 100 minutes more than this Test match and scored almost 2,200 fewer runs. Shocking.

Virat Kohli’s Recent Fielding Performance

Kohli’s fielding performance was also great during the Test and Open Day International, but lacking during the India Premier League.

During the Test, he caught 109 balls and created 14 ducks as well as 2 Run Outs. During the ODI, he caught 141 balls, created 15 ducks, and had an amazing 12 run-outs!

In the IPL he did an amazing job catching 93 balls, creating 9 ducks and 9 run-outs, but considering how many minutes that match lasted, Kohli should have beaten his Test figures.

We can forgive him for this though, as Kohli is a batter, not a fielder, so seeing his fielding statistics in a somewhat even light is great news.

Virat Kohli’s Recent Bowling Performance

Taking on the bowling role, Kohli did his best work during the Open Day International. There he bowled in 48 innings, for 106.5 overs. Although he conceded 665 runs, he also took 4 wickets.

You wouldn’t find Kohli on the latest sports betting odds for bowling, but he did create a bowling average of 166.25.

The worst bowling performance Kohli has made in recent major matches occurred during the World Cup. However, it was only bad because he didn’t perform often.

He bowled in 3 innings and conceded 19 runs from them. The official statistics sheets didn’t even record what the average was, it was so minuscule, but his economy rate for that match was 6.33 which is pretty average for Kohli.

The Young Prodigy – Virat Kohli’s Youth

Virat Kohli was considered an outcast in his youth because of his gelled hair and intense American demeanor. He was “Un-Indian” in the eyes of his nation, but in 2008 Kohli started to make a positive name for himself.

He batted for the ODI series and created some amazing hits which showed the world just how amazing his runs were.

The Indian team won the series that year, which should have been enough to keep Kohli in the limelight – by formidable duo Sehwag and Tendulkar took all the glory.

By the time Kohli turned 20, he was dominating the batting world. His hit could travel further than his rivals, and even though he was playing for the junior ranks, he was impressive in the national eye.

In 2009, Kohli joined large tournaments against South Africa winning so many victories, he was almost swimming in champagne that he was still too young to drink.

The prodigy was living up to expectations.

A National Treasure

By this point, the national selectors for the Indian team knew they made a mistake, and had to ask him to join. Happy to be welcomed as a hero, Kohli brought up his Maiden ODI hundred and continued to wow the crowd.

Soon he was set for the World Cup. The year was 2011 and Kohli had never played in a tournament so large. He was ready for the stage, and yet he was still underrated.

In the end, Kohli hit a crucial inning which allowed India to win the World Cup.

For the next 3 years, Kohli drank in this success, continuing this winning streak.

Virat Kohli’s Technique

Of course, many years have passed since that win, but Kohli hasn’t changed much. He is still a hot-headed player who uses his anger to power his batting.

Because of this anger, Virat Kohli often judges a hit much earlier than most, which means fast bowlers are unlikely to whip past him, but slow ones might cause him to rush too early.

Kohli has quick wrists though and it’s not unlike him to change speed or direction at the last minute.

Final Thoughts

Kohli was a fierce competitor in his youth, and though the raw power is still there, what comes of a prodigy once they’re no longer a child? Kohli has to keep his amazing power up at full speed just to keep fulfilling his role as top dog. Soon, something will crumble.
