ICC T20 World Cup 2026 – Preview

The ICC T20 World Cup is one of the highlights of the worldwide 2026 sporting calendar.

India (2007 & 2024), England (2010 & 2022) and West Indies (2012 & 2016) are the only teams to win the title on more than occasion.

Pakistan (2009), Sri Lanka (2014) and Australia (2021) complete the roll of honour, and the latter appeal as the value bet in the outright market.

India will undoubtedly be tough to beat on home soil and the wicket conditions should suit their style of play more than several of their rivals.

However, the pressure of hosting the tournament brings a different dynamic to the table for the reigning champions.

India failed to get the job done as hosts in 2016 and it would be no surprise if they suffered the same fate this time around.

England were the defending champions going into the 2024 event, but they were knocked out by India in the semi-finals.

While they have plenty of world-class players in their squad, they make limited appeal as a betting proposition in this tournament.

South Africa should mount a strong bid to win the title for the first time. They were beaten by India in the 2024 final, but will fancy their chances of going one better this year.

Australia’s confidence will be high following the successful Ashes series against England and they look worth backing at odds of 4/1 to win the title for the second time.

Their squad looks extremely well balanced, which could prove to be the difference when the tournament reaches the business end.
