Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has not only dominated bowlers on the cricket field for over a decade but has also established himself as a global icon with a massive fan following. A recent report now suggests that Kohli is among the wealthiest athletes in the world, with an estimated net worth of Rs 1050 crore.
Despite a couple of lean years with the bat, Kohli’s popularity remains unaffected, as he recently became the first Asian athlete to reach 250 million followers on Instagram. In fact, the Indian batting maestro is the third most followed athlete on the platform, trailing only football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
While Kohli’s massive fan base is expected, given the cricket craze in the country, social media platforms play a significant role in the Indian star’s revenue. According to Bengaluru-based trading and investing company StockGro, Kohli earns Rs 8.9 crores per Instagram post and Rs 2.5 crores per Twitter post.
In terms of revenue sources, Kohli is in the highest salary bracket for Indian cricketers, with an annual contract worth Rs 7 crore. His contract with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) fetches him a staggering sum of Rs 15 crore per year. Additionally, he earns Rs 15 lakh per Test match, Rs 6 lakh per One Day International (ODI), and Rs 3 lakh per T20 match.
Taking into account Kohli’s cricket earnings, social media income, personal assets, and other business ventures, StockGro estimates his net worth to be around Rs 1050 crore. Beyond cricket, the former Indian captain co-owns the football club FC Goa in the Indian Super League, as well as teams in tennis and pro-wrestling.
Kohli’s brand value is immense, and he reportedly charges the highest fee among Indian celebrities for ad shoots, earning approximately Rs 7.5 to 10 crore per campaign. In addition to being associated with numerous renowned companies, Kohli owns several brands himself and has made significant investments in Indian start-ups.
The report also mentions Kohli’s personal assets, including two houses in Mumbai and Gurgaon. The Mumbai house is estimated to be worth around Rs 34 crore, while the Gurgaon house near his hometown has an estimated value of nearly Rs 80 crore.
