We are now in the off season and fans of cricket need something else to entertain them until cricket begins again in the spring. While the weather is a little cooler and we are spending more time indoors, now is the perfect time to try out and get good at some new games.
There is such a huge variety of options available online; you can enjoy the thrill of casino gaming on sites like Virgin Games, give your brain a workout by solving puzzles on smartphone apps or play your favourite sports in simulation from your PC.
Here are just a few cricket themed games worth trying out:
Cricket 19
Developed and published by Big Ant Studios in 2019, Cricket 19 is a fun cricket title for Switch, Xbox, PlayStation and PC. The game was released specifically for the 2019 Ashes series and can be played in either single or multiplayer modes.
You are tasked with taking your team all the way from club to international level with match formats including T20, ODI and Test Match. The game is praised highly for its realistic graphics and easy to navigate menus and features.
Players note that licensing for this game is quite limited, however all the Ashes venues from 2019 do feature in the game, as do Australia and England’s mens and womens cricket teams.
Ashes Cricket
Another popular Big Ant cricket game is Ashes Cricket. This game predates Cricket 19 by two years, having been released worldwide for PC and consoles in 2017.
You have a great variety of options in Ashes Cricket, you can play either as England or Australia and take them through the Ashes series, or you can play as an individual star player – the choice is yours.
It was the very first officially licensed cricket game and is based on the women’s and men’s 2017 – 2018 Ashes tours. There is a fun player creation tool that gives you the ability to create your own players to use in the cricket academy or through the series, or even their own player careers.
Ashes Cricket was highly rated at the time due to it being seen as an authentic game that represented international cricket in a realistic way. With online play, you are able to play with or go head to head against other players.

Don Bradman Cricket 14
How about a slightly more vintage game? Between 2014 and 2015 Don Bradman Cricket 14 was released in stores for consoles and computers. The game was developed by Big Ant Studios but published by Tru Blu Entertainment and gives players the chance to choose from over 14,000 teams from the online Academy. Many players love this title for its career mode, which involves creating a new 16 year old player who must develop and go up the ranks through their 20 year career.
At the game’s cricket academy program, players can create teams, competitions and individual players. One aspect of this game that players rave about is just how realistic the movements of the ball are.
The fielding system feature allows you as the player to run down the ball and either slide to block a four, knock down stumps or catch a high ball that is heading towards the boundary rope. There are also practice nets to help hone your skills and an online save button to allow you to play and come back to a game whenever you want.
Cricket Captain 2020
Looking for something slightly newer to the gaming market? Well Cricket Captain 2020 is a great choice for all fans of cricket, it was a saviour for cricket watchers in 2020 who were missing out on live games during the disrupted season.
The new 100 ball competition was a hit when it was introduced to the sport and has been included in this game. The stats and AI in Cricket Captain have been adapted to fit in with the new real-life format and there has been a full database update with over 7,000 players from around the world.
For the first time in this game series, Captains are able to switch for their domestic positions to international teams.
Stick Cricket
While the above game is great for playing at home on a console or PC, for cricket fans looking to play games on the go, Stick Cricket is ideal and can be downloaded from either Apple or Android app stores.
It is a real time multiplayer game where players go head to head in stadiums around the world. There are a huge range of shots that can be taken, including Switch Hit, Scoop and Ramp.
Customisation features are available and allow you to edit the names of players, countries and appearances. Also, you will need to think strategically when making team selections and tactical bowling changes.
