Australia Announce T20 Squad for West Indies Series: Fraser-McGurk and Bartlett Included

Australia has made two key changes to its squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies, calling up opener Jake Fraser-McGurk and fast bowler Xavier Bartlett. The duo comes in as replacements for Spencer Johnson, who is recovering from a back injury, and Josh Hazlewood, who is returning home to prepare for next month’s series in South Africa.

Fraser-McGurk, who recently missed out on a central contract, sees this as a crucial opportunity to prove himself in the shortest format. The young batter has shown flashes of brilliance in domestic and franchise cricket but has struggled with consistency. This tour of the Caribbean gives him a chance to re-establish his place in Australia’s T20I plans, especially with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup just months away.

Xavier Bartlett, fresh off an impressive run in T20 cricket and currently leading the wicket charts in Major League Cricket, has been rewarded with another call-up. He will look to build on his strong international start, having already made a solid impression in the format.

The T20I squad will be led by Mitchell Marsh, who is in strong form. Senior players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Travis Head have been rested and will return home after Australia’s recent Test series win over the West Indies.

Australia has enjoyed an excellent run in T20Is recently, winning 12 of their last 14 matches. They will be looking to extend that momentum through this West Indies series as part of their build-up to the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year.

The five-match series begins with two games in Kingston, Jamaica, followed by three matches in Basseterre, St Kitts.

Australia T20I squad v West Indies: Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Xavier Bartlett, Josh Inglis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitch Owen, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa.
