BBL 2025: Perth Scorchers squad against Melbourne Renegades announced with return of Mitchell Marsh

  • by

Australian T20I captain and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is set to make a much-anticipated return to the Big Bash League (BBL) after almost three years. Marsh has been included in the Perth Scorchers squad for their upcoming clash against the Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday. This marks his first BBL appearance since leading the Scorchers to victory in the BBL 11 final against the Sydney Sixers.

Marsh, who was part of Australia’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy-winning squad in India, played four Tests during the series but was dropped from the final match in Sydney. Despite his recent omission from the national Test squad, his inclusion in the Scorchers lineup is expected to bolster the team’s batting strength as they gear up for the crucial fixture.

With 1,904 runs to his name, Marsh is the second-highest run-scorer in the Scorchers’ history, trailing only behind captain Ashton Turner, who has amassed 2,178 runs. Marsh’s return is anticipated to add significant firepower to the top order, where he will join explosive batsman Finn Allen and rising star Cooper Connolly.

Perth Scorchers head coach Adam Voges expressed his excitement over Marsh’s comeback, highlighting the value his experience and power-hitting bring to the team. “If anything, hopefully playing for the Scorchers will free Mitch up. International cricket is such high pressure, especially during an Indian series. We’d love to have him back in orange and see if he can smack a few balls around here,” Voges stated in an interview with cricket.com.au.

In addition to Marsh, fast bowler Jhye Richardson has also been named in the Scorchers squad after missing three of the team’s last four matches. Richardson, who was part of Australia’s Test squad for the final two matches of the Border-Gavaskar series, has made a strong impact for the Scorchers this season. In the three games he has played, Richardson has taken six wickets at an impressive average of 13.5, maintaining an economy rate of just 6.75.

Richardson’s return is expected to strengthen the Scorchers’ bowling attack as they push for a strong finish in the tournament. His ability to take wickets at crucial moments makes him a valuable asset for the team.

Spinner Ashton Agar has also been included in the squad as he continues to recover from a back injury that kept him out of the Scorchers’ last match against the Sydney Thunder. Agar’s inclusion will provide an additional spin option for the Scorchers, adding depth to their bowling lineup.
