BCCI to decide Jasprit Bumrah’s Champions Trophy availability today

  • by

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make a crucial decision regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 today, February 11. The Indian pace spearhead recently underwent a back scan at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and his participation in the marquee tournament will depend on the medical assessment and selectors’ discussions.

Bumrah’s injury concerns date back to January 2024, during the final innings of the Perth Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Sydney. He was unable to bowl a single delivery and was subsequently sent for scans, after which Australian doctors advised him to rest for the remainder of the Test match.

Following medical recommendations, the BCCI decided to rest him for at least five weeks, with a follow-up scan scheduled before the Champions Trophy to assess his recovery. His availability for the tournament will now depend on the latest medical evaluations.

If declared fit, Bumrah will be a vital asset for India in the Champions Trophy 2025, given his stellar form in international cricket last year.

  • He was the leading wicket-taker across formats in 2023, claiming 86 wickets in 21 matches at an average of 13.76.
  • His performances included four four-wicket hauls and five five-wicket hauls, with his best figures being 6/45.
  • In Test cricket, he had an exceptional year, picking up 71 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 14.92, proving to be India’s most lethal bowling weapon.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, featuring eight teams and 15 matches, will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and the UAE from February 19 to March 9. India will play all its matches in Dubai under a hybrid model.
