
The inaugural players draft of the Big Cricket League (BCL) marked a significant milestone in Indian cricket, assembling a mix of international legends, seasoned first-class players, and local talent. Held in Mumbai, the draft featured six franchises that finalized squads of up to 18 players each, setting the stage for the league’s opening on December 12 in Surat.
The league introduces six teams: Northern Challengers, UP Brij Stars, Rajasthan Regals, MP Tigers, Mumbai Marines, and Southern Spartans. Each team comprises six former international players, six former Indian first-class cricketers, and ten local aspiring cricketers, offering an unprecedented opportunity for grassroots talent to share the field with cricketing icons.

Among the star players leading the charge are Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Shikhar Dhawan, Imran Tahir, Yusuf Pathan, and Tillakaratne Dilshan. Other big names, such as Herschelle Gibbs, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Upul Tharanga, Fidel Edwards, and Stuart Binny, were also picked during the draft, promising an action-packed tournament.
The league, spearheaded by prominent figures like Dilip Vengsarkar as Commissioner, Rudra Pratap Singh as President, and Annirudh Chauhan as CEO, aims to create a unique platform that blends international experience with local talent. Bollywood personalities Raveena Tandon and Rasha Thadani, alongside Supreme Court lawyer Sana Raees Khan, are among the franchise owners adding glamour to the league.
Speaking at the draft, League Commissioner Dilip Vengsarkar expressed optimism about the league’s potential, saying, “This league has the potential to become one of the biggest in the world and certainly in India. The idea of bringing local cricketers and former international stars is unique, inspiring, and promising.”
Rudra Pratap Singh echoed the sentiment, highlighting the quality of the teams. “The successful completion of the draft gives me immense pride and confidence ahead of the first season. Franchise owners have done a great job assembling six high-quality teams, and audiences across the world can expect cracking cricket,” he said.
CEO Annirudh Chauhan emphasized the effort invested in scouting talent. “A lot of hard work has been done over the last 10-12 months to find the best local aspiring talent across the country. For these players, sharing the field with legendary international stars is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he said.
Chief Patron Puneet Singh also shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming season. “The dream of bringing together former international stars and local aspiring cricketers is finally coming true. A successful players draft promises a top-class first season of the Big Cricket League,” he stated.
