Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri has voiced his support for KL Rahul to continue as an opener in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, citing a lack of preparation time for captain Rohit Sharma in Australia. The day-night Test is set to begin in Adelaide on Friday (see schedule here).
Shastri emphasized the importance of maintaining continuity at the top order, especially after Rahul’s impressive performance on a challenging Perth pitch in the first Test. “I think Rahul should carry on opening because Rohit has not had much time since he’s arrived here,” Shastri said during an ICC Review interview.

He also suggested that Rohit could adapt to a lower batting position. “Rohit can bat at five or six. Carrying on with the same setup would be the way to go,” Shastri added.
India’s batting lineup will be further strengthened by the return of Shubman Gill, who missed the Perth Test due to a hand injury. Gill showcased his form with a swift fifty in the Prime Minister’s XI match, boosting India’s confidence ahead of the Adelaide Test.
Shastri praised the depth of India’s batting lineup, calling it one of the strongest to tour Australia in recent years. “With Shubman fit and likely to bat at three, and Rohit returning to the side, this Indian batting lineup looks very experienced and solid,” he said.
