Cricket West Indies (CWI) has suspended Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell for four matches following a Level 3 breach of conduct during the Super50 Cup Final against Barbados Pride on November 23. The suspension stems from Campbell’s failure to attend the toss as instructed by match officials, a violation of the CWI Code of Conduct for Players and Officials.
Expressing regret for his actions, Campbell acknowledged the disruption caused during the final. “I sincerely regret any disruption caused during the final and acknowledge that my actions may have been perceived as resistance to the match officials’ decision,” he stated in a letter to Match Referee Reon King. “It was never my intention to undermine their authority or bring the game into disrepute.”

CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe highlighted Campbell’s remorse in determining the sanction. “We appreciate Campbell’s acknowledgment of the situation and his sincere apology. In light of his admission, CWI has applied the minimum sanction of a four-match ban for a Level 3 offence, as a matter of leniency,” Bascombe explained. The suspension will be served during the 2025 CG United Super50 Tournament.
Bascombe underscored the importance of the decision in maintaining the integrity of cricket. “This decision reinforces the critical role of captains in upholding sportsmanship and respect for the game’s values. We trust that John will use this experience to contribute positively to West Indies cricket and serve as a role model moving forward,” he added.
In an unprecedented move, CWI announced that no prize money will be awarded and no match fees will be paid to either team involved in the final. The champions were originally set to receive USD 100,000, while the runners-up would have earned USD 50,000.
CWI also revealed that Barbados Pride captain Raymon Reifer faces a similar charge. Bascombe stated, “At this stage, Raymon Reifer has not responded to the charges. Should he fail to respond, the matter will proceed to the disciplinary committee. Our goal is to ensure accountability and promote professionalism on and off the field.”
