Deccan Gladiators secure Abu Dhabi T10 final spot for 4th consecutive time

Deccan Gladiators continued their dominance in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament by storming into the final for the fourth consecutive time and fifth overall with a commanding victory over Morrisville Samp Army in Qualifier 1 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. The two-time champions showcased a stellar all-round performance, solidifying their reputation as a formidable force in the competition.

Batting first, the Gladiators posted an imposing 147/2 in 10 overs, powered by an explosive knock from skipper Nicholas Pooran. The West Indies star smashed an unbeaten 72 off 33 balls, hitting five sixes and four fours. He was ably supported by England’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who scored a brisk 51 off 24 balls before his dismissal.

Morrisville Samp Army began their chase on a promising note, scoring 13 runs in the opening over. However, Gladiators’ bowlers quickly turned the tide. England pacer Richard Gleeson dismissed Charith Asalanka for just one run in the second over, triggering a series of wickets that left the Samp Army struggling. Despite efforts from Jack Taylor (25* off 14), Andries Gous (22 off 14), and Faf du Plessis (21 off 10), they could only manage 102/5 in their 10 overs.

Deccan Gladiators’ bowling unit played a crucial role in the win. Usman Tariq delivered an economical spell, taking 2/19 in his two overs, while Gleeson and David Wiese chipped in with a wicket each to stifle the opposition.

Although Morrisville Samp Army fell short, their campaign is still alive as they move on to face the winner of Eliminator 2 in Qualifier 2. Meanwhile, the Gladiators await the winner of Qualifier 2 in the final showdown on Monday, aiming to clinch their third Abu Dhabi T10 title.
