Delhi Premier League Season 2 Set to Begin on August 2, Women’s League from August 17

The Delhi Premier League (DPL) is returning for its second edition, with the men’s tournament scheduled to start on August 2 and conclude on August 31 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. A reserve day for the men’s final has been fixed for September 1 to address potential weather disruptions. The women’s league will commence later in the month, beginning on August 17 and ending on August 24.

This season will feature eight men’s teams and four women’s teams, with a focus on competitive cricket and opportunities for emerging local talent. The men’s tournament will have 40 matches, while the women’s competition will consist of six matches.

For the men’s competition, the eight teams have been divided into two groups:

Group A: Outer Delhi Warriors, Central Delhi Kings, New Delhi Tigers, and North Delhi Strikers
Group B: West Delhi Lions, East Delhi Riders, South Delhi Superstarz, and Purani Dilli 6

Each men’s team will play ten matches: six within their group on a double round-robin basis and four against the opposite group on a single round-robin basis. The top four teams from the league stage will qualify for the playoffs. Qualifier 1 will decide the first finalist, while the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 will determine the other finalist.

The women’s league will be played in a round-robin format, with four teams competing. The top two teams from the league stage will meet in the final.

The points system remains standard, with two points for a win and one point each for abandoned matches or no result. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided via a Super Over.

Speaking about the league’s growth, DDCA President Rohan Jaitley stated, “Season 2 of DPL marks a new chapter for domestic franchise cricket in Delhi. With round-robin format and the inclusion of two new men’s teams, the level of competition will be significantly elevated. The women’s league also continues to gain ground and will be a strong platform for aspiring female cricketers in the Capital. Our vision is to create a high-quality, sustainable league that gives Delhi’s players the spotlight they deserve, and we are proud of the foundation that’s being laid with DPL.”
