The Desert Vipers continued their unbeaten run in the ILT20, securing a commanding 53-run victory over the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Dubai International Stadium. Anchored by Alex Hales’ explosive half-century and Luke Wood’s exceptional fielding, the Vipers strengthened their position at the top of the points table with their fourth consecutive win.
Electing to bat first, the Vipers made an impressive start, with Alex Hales leading the charge. Hales, supported by Fakhar Zaman, kept the scoreboard ticking until Jason Holder dismissed Zaman in the fourth over. The Vipers reached 61/1 at the end of the powerplay, bolstered by a 22-run over from Shahid Bhutta.

Hales brought up his half-century in style, smashing consecutive sixes off Vijayakanth Viyaskanth. He shared a crucial 69-run partnership with Dan Lawrence before falling to David Willey for a well-compiled 58. Clarke was run out in a stroke of bad luck when Sunil Narine’s shot deflected off Sowter’s arm onto the stumps, catching Clarke outside his crease. Narine himself fell soon after, with Wood completing his third catch of the evening.
The Knight Riders lost three wickets in seven balls, leaving them reeling at 90/5. Wood’s brilliance in the field continued as he executed a mid-air assist to dismiss Andre Russell, effectively ending the chase. Wanindu Hasaranga further tightened the noose, claiming two late wickets, including a spectacular direct hit to dismiss Jason Holder, who struck a quick 27 off nine balls.
The Knight Riders were eventually bowled out for 140, handing the Vipers a 53-run victory.
Luke Wood was named Player of the Match for his exceptional fielding, which included three catches and a stunning boundary assist to dismiss Russell. Reflecting on his performance, Wood said, “This has never happened before (winning the award for fielding). I was just trying to get under those catches. I’m glad Payne was there to complete that (Russell’s) catch.”
Sunil Narine, captain of the Knight Riders, lamented the team’s middle-order collapse: “It was a good wicket, and we backed our batters to get the total. Losing 3-4 wickets in two overs put us on the back foot.”
With their fourth consecutive win, the Desert Vipers lead the points table with eight points, showcasing a perfect blend of batting firepower, sharp bowling, and exceptional fielding. The team continues to set the benchmark in the ongoing ILT20.
