Dinesh Karthik Excited to Join SA20 League with Paarl Royals

Dinesh Karthik, the first Indian cricketer to participate in the SA20 league, is set to begin a new chapter in his cricketing journey with the Paarl Royals. Speaking at the SA20 India Day event, Karthik shared his excitement about the league, reflecting on his connection with South Africa and its vibrant cricketing culture.

Karthik praised the SA20 league’s success, attributing it to South Africa’s robust domestic cricket structure. “Teams with a strong domestic cricket culture tend to excel in franchise tournaments. South Africa has had a great domestic setup for a long time, making SA20 a standout competition,” he remarked.

Highlighting the quality of players in the league, Karthik commended the six franchises for their impressive player selections. “The six teams have assembled a remarkable mix of players, including top-ranked batters and bowlers in the ICC rankings. It has been a well-contested tournament,” he said.

The involvement of IPL franchises has added an intriguing dimension to the SA20 league, Karthik noted. “It’s fascinating that all the franchises are owned by IPL teams. This brings a certain rivalry and competitiveness that’s already exciting to watch. The investment from IPL owners highlights the potential and growth of SA20, which has stood strong since its inception,” he explained.

Reflecting on his connection to South Africa, Karthik expressed his fondness for the country, stemming from his past experiences as a Test cricketer and during memorable World Cup campaigns. “South Africa holds a special place for me because of the memories I’ve had here. Watching SA20 closely over the years, I’ve seen its incredible evolution,” he shared.

Joining the Paarl Royals, Karthik is enthusiastic about contributing to the team’s success. “I’m thrilled to be part of the Royals. Observing the tournament from afar, I’ve always had good things to say about it. I’m happy I got picked up by the Royals, but I would’ve been tempted by other offers too,” he said with a smile.
