England Crush New Zealand By 115 Runs To Win First Test At Lord’s

• England defeated New Zealand by 115 runs in the first Test at Lord’s.
• Gus Atkinson claimed 5-30 as New Zealand were bowled out for 138 in the fourth innings.
• England now lead the three-match series 1-0 ahead of the second Test at The Oval.

England secured a dominant 115-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Lord’s on Sunday, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Chasing a target of 254, New Zealand struggled against England’s pace attack and were dismissed for just 138 before lunch on the fourth day. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson starred with figures of 5-30, registering his fourth five-wicket haul in an innings in just three Tests at the historic venue.

The victory came in the 150th Test match played at Lord’s, the most Test matches hosted by any cricket ground in the world. It also marked a strong start for England following their difficult Ashes campaign in Australia, which ended with a 4-1 series defeat in January.

Bowlers dominated throughout the match as overcast conditions and a pitch offering uneven bounce created challenging batting conditions for both teams.

New Zealand’s first innings lasted only 113 runs, with Ollie Robinson making an impressive return to England’s Test side after more than two years away. The seamer produced career-best Test figures of 5-39, while Josh Tongue supported him with three wickets.

England had earlier been bowled out for 140 in their first innings despite a fighting 56 from Harry Brook. New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson led the visitors’ attack with excellent figures of 5-62.

After gaining a first-innings lead, England strengthened their position in the second innings. Debutant Emilio Gay impressed with a composed 57, helping the hosts reach 226 and set New Zealand a challenging target. Nathan Smith was the standout bowler for the visitors, taking 6-70.

However, New Zealand never threatened the target in the fourth innings as Atkinson ripped through the batting order to seal a comprehensive win for the home side.

Brief Scores:

  • England 1st Innings: 140 all out (Harry Brook 56; Kyle Jamieson 5-62, Nathan Smith 3-38)

  • England 2nd Innings: 226 all out (Emilio Gay 57; Nathan Smith 6-70)
  • New Zealand 2nd Innings: 138 all out (Gus Atkinson 5-30)

Result: England won by 115 runs

Series: England lead the three-match series 1-0

The second Test of the series will also be played in London, with action moving to The Oval on June 17 as England look to extend their advantage and New Zealand aim to level the contest.
