Gujarat Titans Secure Jos Buttler for ₹15.75 Crore, Eye Strong Comeback in IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans (GT) made headlines during the IPL 2025 mega auction by acquiring England’s star wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler for a massive ₹15.75 crore. The Titans outbid strong contenders Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to bring Buttler on board for the upcoming season.

GT’s assistant coach Parthiv Patel expressed his delight at securing Buttler, emphasizing the value he brings to the squad.

“We’re very happy to have Jos Buttler in our side. He’s versatile—he can bat anywhere, keep wickets, and even support Shubman Gill during batting. We aimed to get the best bowler and batter from the marquee set, and we’ve achieved that,” Parthiv told ESPNcricinfo.

Echoing his sentiments, GT’s director of cricket Vikram Solanki noted the importance of sticking to their auction strategy.

“We’re very pleased with the team we’re building. While there are still slots to fill, we’ve played our part effectively so far. Tomorrow offers another opportunity to bring in more talented players and refine our squad,” Solanki said.

Buttler, one of the finest white-ball batters of his generation, boasts an impressive T20 record with 11,929 runs, including eight centuries and 83 fifties, in 427 matches. A T20 World Cup-winning captain for England, he has been a consistent performer in the IPL since his debut.

During his stint with Rajasthan Royals (2018–2024), Buttler amassed 3,055 runs at an average of 41.84 and a strike rate of 147.79, becoming the franchise’s third-highest run-getter. His standout season came in IPL 2022, where he topped the charts with 863 runs, including four centuries, helping RR secure a runner-up finish.

Buttler also contributed significantly during his tenure with Mumbai Indians (2016–2017), scoring 527 runs and clinching an IPL title in 2017.

Gujarat Titans are looking to bounce back after a lackluster IPL 2024 season, where they managed just five wins from 14 matches, finishing eighth in the standings. This marked a sharp decline for the team, which won the championship in 2022 and finished as runners-up in 2023.

With Buttler’s addition, GT aims to bolster their top order and regain their competitive edge. His ability to anchor innings and deliver explosive starts, coupled with his vast experience, makes him a critical asset for the franchise’s resurgence in IPL 2025.

What Buttler Brings to GT

  • Versatility: Can bat at various positions and keep wickets.
  • Proven Track Record: Over 3,500 IPL runs, including standout performances in high-pressure games.
  • Leadership Support: As a seasoned campaigner, Buttler can mentor younger players and strengthen GT’s leadership group.
