Harbhajan Singh, Ishant Sharma Reflect on Facing Australia Ahead of Second BGT Test

As India gears up for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series against Australia on December 6, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh and veteran pacer Ishant Sharma shared their insights on the challenges of playing against a dominant Australian team. Reflecting on past encounters, both emphasized the importance of determination and extra effort when facing one of the worldโ€™s top cricketing sides.

India made a strong statement in the opening Test, defeating Australia by 295 runs in Perth. This remarkable victory came despite a shaky start, as the team was bowled out for just 150 runs in their first innings. The win was a major morale boost for India, following a series whitewash at home against New Zealand.

In a warm-up match preceding the second Test, India secured a five-wicket win against Australiaโ€™s Prime Ministers’ XI at Canberra’s Manuka Oval. Pacer Harshit Ranaโ€™s four-wicket haul and solid batting performances from Shubman Gill, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Yashasvi Jaiswal highlighted Indiaโ€™s readiness for the challenges ahead.

Harbhajan Singh recalled the intensity required to compete with Australia during his playing days, describing them as the number one team in world cricket. โ€œYou get to know how good of a player you are when you play against a bigger team like Australia. They were the top team, and to prove our capabilities, we had to put in extra effort and stay determined,โ€ Harbhajan said in an interview with Star Sports.

Ishant Sharma echoed similar sentiments, sharing his experience from his first tour of Australia. โ€œWhen you play against a dominant team like Australia, you need to put in some extra effort. During my first visit, I didnโ€™t overthink; I just focused on doing the simple things and giving my best,โ€ Ishant said.
