Harbhajan Singh Predicts Winner of India-Pakistan Clash in Champions Trophy 2025

  • by

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has weighed in on the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, cautioning fans not to expect a nail-biting contest. While discussing the February 23 fixture, Harbhajan described the encounter as “overhyped,” emphasizing the considerable gap in strength between the two sides.

India and Pakistan last faced off in the Champions Trophy during the 2017 final at The Oval, where Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan secured a historic 180-run victory to claim their maiden title. This time, however, Harbhajan believes the rivalry lacks competitiveness, suggesting that India holds a significant advantage.

“We will discuss the overhyped match between India and Pakistan. Yes, it is overhyped because there is nothing in it. India is a strong team. Pakistan is inconsistent. If you compare the numbers with the Indian team, the picture will become clear,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

The two teams are set to face off in Dubai, adding another chapter to their storied rivalry following their intense T20 World Cup 2024 group-stage thriller. However, the former Indian spinner predicts a one-sided affair, highlighting India’s superior form in the lead-up to the tournament.

Ahead of the Champions Trophy, India displayed dominant form under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, securing a comprehensive 3-0 series win against England. In contrast, Pakistan struggled in their preparations, finishing as runners-up in a home tri-nation ODI series against South Africa and New Zealand.

Despite a record-breaking 353-run chase against South Africa in Karachi, Pakistan suffered defeats in crucial matches. They were convincingly beaten by New Zealand in the final, raising concerns about their consistency before their tournament opener against the Kiwis on Wednesday.

Harbhajan believes Pakistan’s lack of depth in batting, aside from key players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, will make it difficult for them to challenge India.

“I think the Pakistan team is undercooked. Apart from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, there are not many batters. I feel it will be a one-sided game. I don’t think there will be much entertainment. I think in this contest, India is far ahead,” he added.

While the India-Pakistan clash continues to generate immense excitement among cricket fans, Harbhajan’s remarks suggest that the gulf in quality between the two teams might lead to a lopsided result rather than a thrilling showdown.
