Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf and New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra sustained injuries during the first ODI of the tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, according to the ICC. The match, which saw New Zealand claim a dominant 78-run victory over Pakistan, was marred by the unfortunate injuries to both key players.
Rauf suffered a side strain while bowling in the first innings, forcing him to leave the field in discomfort. His injury occurred in the 37th over when he clutched his knee after delivering the second ball and immediately walked off. As a result, the pacer did not return to bat during Pakistan’s innings. Following the game, Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan was asked about Rauf’s condition but admitted that there was limited clarity on his availability for the next match. However, based on initial medical reports, there appeared to be no serious concern.

Meanwhile, Ravindra sustained a facial injury in the second innings while attempting to take a catch off Michael Bracewell’s shot in the 38th over. The left-handed batter misjudged the ball under the floodlights and was struck hard on the face. His injury adds to New Zealand’s growing concerns, as fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is already sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during the ILT20 tournament in the UAE.
Despite the injuries, New Zealand delivered an impressive performance, with batting all-rounder Glenn Phillips playing a key role in securing their victory. His explosive knock helped the Kiwis establish a commanding position in the tri-series standings, earning two points with a net run rate of +1.560.
The tri-series will continue with the next match between New Zealand and South Africa, scheduled to take place at the same venue, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, on February 10.
