
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June 2025, marking her fourth time receiving the prestigious honour. With this achievement, she equals Australia’s Ash Gardner for the most ICC Women’s Player of the Month awards, having previously won in November 2021, October 2023, and April 2024.

Matthews earned the award following a standout T20I series performance against South Africa at home, where she led her side to a 2-1 comeback victory. The all-rounder was named Player of the Series after scoring 147 runs at an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of 120.49, along with taking two wickets with her off-spin. After a quiet first match scoring just 19, she bounced back with commanding unbeaten knocks of 63* and 65 to seal the series for her team.
Despite carrying a shoulder injury that affected her in the ODI series, Matthews continued to contribute with scores of 40 and 56, along with four wickets in a closely contested 2-1 defeat. Her consistency and leadership across formats continue to be a driving force for the West Indies women’s team.
Reacting to the award, Matthews said she was honoured to be recognised again but emphasized her focus remains on team goals and future challenges. She expressed satisfaction in contributing during a tough T20I series and shared optimism about the team’s direction moving forward.
