United States all-rounder Mohammad Mohsin expressed confidence ahead of his team’s crucial ICC Men’s T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan on February 10, saying the side hopes to repeat its famous upset victory from the previous edition. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Mohsin underlined the growth and improved strength of the USA squad compared to past tournaments.
“I think last World Cup I was not part of the team, but I was there, I watched the game, and I think this year a major difference is our strength has increased. We have a lot more skilful team, even though the last team was skilful as well, but we have increased in skill level. So we are hoping to have a good game against them tomorrow and hopefully we win again,” Mohsin said, reflecting the upbeat mood in the USA camp.

When asked whether the team had revisited their memorable win over Pakistan in the previous T20 World Cup, Mohsin confirmed that the result has been a source of motivation. “Yes, we have. We spoke about it in a way where we carry forward that confidence we gained from beating them in the last World Cup, and hopefully tomorrow we will be more confident than last time, and we’ll have a good fight against them,” he added.
The 29-year-old also spoke about the team’s mindset following their recent defeat against defending champions India, insisting that the focus remains on positives rather than dwelling on the loss. “Yeah, I think it was a tough loss to take, especially from where the game was after the first 15 overs. But we only discussed the positives that we gained from the last game and against Pakistan because we have beaten them once. I think the pressure is all on them. Anyway, we don’t have anything to lose in this World Cup. We are just enjoying our journey and I think the way it started it seems to be an exciting one and hopefully with tomorrow’s win it’s going to be even better,” Mohsin said.
USA are making their second appearance in the T20 World Cup after debuting in the 2024 edition and come into the Pakistan match after a loss to India. In that game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 8, India posted 161 for 9 after being asked to bat first, with captain Suryakumar Yadav scoring an unbeaten 84 off 49 balls. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma also contributed useful runs, while for the USA, Shadley van Schalkwyk and Harmeet Singh were among the wicket-takers.
In reply, the USA were restricted to 132 for 8, losing the match by 29 runs despite fighting knocks from Milind Kumar, Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Shubham Ranjane. India’s bowlers Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh ensured the defending champions sealed the contest.
Following the India fixture, the USA travel to Sri Lanka to face Pakistan on February 10, a team they famously defeated in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The USA squad for the tournament includes Monank Patel as captain, along with Jessy Singh, Andries Gous, Shehan Jayasuriya, Milind Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, Saiteja Mukkamala, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Harmeet Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan, Mohammad Mohsin and Shubham Ranjane.
