ICC announces match officials for Champions Trophy 2025

  • by

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the list of 15 match officials for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, which will take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9. The tournament will be hosted at four venues—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, along with Dubai in the UAE.

A panel of 12 experienced umpires has been selected to officiate the eight-team event. Among them, six officials are returning from the 2017 edition, including Richard Kettleborough, who officiated in the final of the previous Champions Trophy in the UK. He will be joined by fellow experienced umpires Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Richard Illingworth, Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, all of whom also officiated in the last edition of the tournament.

Kumar Dharmasena, who has officiated in 132 ODIs, will extend his record as the most-capped Sri Lankan umpire in One-Day Internationals. Kettleborough and Illingworth, who were on-field umpires during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad, will also be part of the panel for this tournament. Other officials in the lineup include Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Ahsan Raza, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson, all of whom officiated in the recent World Cup in India.

The match referee panel will be led by experienced officials David Boon, Ranjan Madugalle, and Andrew Pycroft, all of whom are members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Boon was the match referee for the 2017 Champions Trophy final, while Madugalle returns after officiating in the 2013 final. Pycroft, who was also part of the 2017 tournament, will once again take up duties in the competition.

Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager for Umpires and Referees, emphasized the quality of the appointed officials and their role in ensuring a smooth tournament. “We are pleased to announce this highly credentialed team of match officials for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. Their collective expertise and experience will be invaluable in ensuring the tournament runs smoothly,” he said.

“We always strive to appoint the most deserving officials for such prestigious events, and we are confident that this group will do an outstanding job in both Pakistan and the UAE. We wish them all the best for a memorable tournament,” he added.

The confirmed list of match officials for the tournament includes umpires Kumar Dharmasena, Chris Gaffaney, Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Richard Illingworth, Richard Kettleborough, Ahsan Raza, Paul Reiffel, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Rod Tucker, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson. The match referees will be David Boon, Ranjan Madugalle, and Andrew Pycroft.
