The 2025 Champions Trophy, the first major ICC event to be hosted in Pakistan since 1996, promises to be an electrifying two-week competition. Matches will be held across three venues—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. The tournament format will see eight teams split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
ICC Chair Jay Shah highlighted the significance of the tournament’s return, emphasizing its role in showcasing top-level ODI cricket and contributing to the global growth of the sport. “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 represents a pivotal moment for cricket, reviving a tournament that highlights the pinnacle of ODI talent, where every match is critical. The substantial prize pot underscores the ICC’s ongoing commitment to investing in the sport and maintaining the global prestige of our events,” Shah stated.
He further stressed that the financial incentives would not only increase competition but also play a key role in cricket’s long-term development. “Beyond the financial incentive, this tournament ignites fierce competition, captivates fans worldwide, and plays a vital role in fostering the growth and long-term sustainability of cricket for future generations,” he added.
The ICC also confirmed that the Champions Trophy will now be held every four years, featuring the world’s top eight ODI teams. Additionally, a Women’s Champions Trophy will be introduced in 2027, played in the T20 format, further expanding the global cricket calendar.
