ICC Champions Trophy tour graces Wankhede stadium’s 50th anniversary

The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 Trophy Tour reached Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, coinciding with the stadium’s 50th-anniversary celebration. The appearance of the prestigious silverware added to the grandeur of the event, creating an electric atmosphere and building excitement for the upcoming tournament.

The event celebrated Wankhede Stadium’s rich legacy as a cricketing landmark, with fans gathering in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the trophy. Many took photos and selfies to mark the special occasion, showcasing their enthusiasm for the Champions Trophy’s return.

India captain Rohit Sharma, alongside cricketing legends Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ajinkya Rahane, and Diana Edulji, posed with the trophy, symbolizing the nation’s rich cricketing heritage.

Speaking at the event, Rohit said, “It is always a dream to represent the Indian team in any ICC trophy. We know that 140 crore people will be behind us when we reach Dubai. So we will try and do everything we can to bring this trophy back again to the Wankhede Stadium.”

The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy is set to take place from February 19 to March 9, co-hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. India will play its matches in the UAE under a hybrid model, with eight teams competing in 15 matches across both countries.

Before arriving in India, the Trophy Tour visited Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and England. In India, the tour is set to include fan engagements and visits to iconic locations in Mumbai, Bangalore, and beyond.
