IND vs AUS: Adelaide Test sets viewership and attendance records

  • by

The day-night Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide Oval has shattered viewership and attendance records, reflecting the immense popularity of the series between Australia and India. Cricket Australia (CA) announced that six of the seven sessions averaged over 1 million viewers across all platforms, with four sessions surpassing 1.4 million viewers.

The Test also saw a record-breaking total attendance of 135,012 over three days, exceeding the previous five-day record of 113,009 for a Test against India set during the 2014-15 series. Single-day attendance records at Adelaide Oval were also rewritten, with 50,186 spectators on Day 1 and 51,642 on Day 2—marking the third and fifth highest attendances for any day of Test cricket at the venue.

In addition to the live action, CA’s digital channels reported impressive engagement. An average of 1.1 million Australian users followed the Test over its three days, and video views from Australian users rose by 17% compared to the first Test, despite the Adelaide match ending early. Across CA’s social media platforms, there were 208 million video views, and 216,000 new followers joined the network.

Adding to the occasion was the premiere of The Boy from Macksville, a documentary honoring the life of late Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes. Broadcast after play on Day 1, the tribute attracted an average audience of 350,000 viewers.

The Adelaide Test ended with a dominant 10-wicket victory for Australia, allowing the hosts to level the series 1-1 after India’s earlier win in the first Test. The win not only energized the competition but also spurred ticket sales for the remaining matches in the series.
