IND vs ENG Test: Akash Deep Breaks Record as India Crush England by 336 Runs in 2nd Test

Akash Deep produced a record-breaking performance to guide India to a dominant 336-run win over England, sealing one of India’s most commanding Test victories on English soil. The fast bowler from Bengal made history by registering the best match figures by an Indian bowler in England, surpassing the previous record held by Chetan Sharma. Deep’s match haul of 10/187 narrowly beat Sharma’s 10/188, a mark that had stood for decades.

His fiery spell, combining pace, precision, and relentless intensity, proved too much for the English batting line-up. After making a strong impact with 4/88 in the first innings, Deep returned to scalp his maiden five-wicket haul in Tests, ending the second innings with figures of 6/99. His ten-wicket haul not only helped India seal the win but also underlined his emergence as a serious force in red-ball cricket.

The match began with England choosing to field first. India lost KL Rahul early for just 2, but Yashasvi Jaiswal (87) and Karun Nair (31) added an 80-run stand to stabilize the innings. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a superb 269 off 387 deliveries, building massive partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42). Gill’s 203-run stand with Jadeja and 144-run partnership with Sundar powered India to a mammoth first-innings total of 587. Shoaib Bashir took 3/167 for England, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue claimed two wickets each.

England’s reply began poorly as India reduced them to 84/5, but a 303-run stand between Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184 not out) rescued the innings temporarily. Mohammed Siraj’s 6/70 and Akash Deep’s 4/88 sparked a late collapse, as England lost their last five wickets for just 20 runs and were bowled out for 407, giving India a commanding 180-run lead.

In their second innings, India continued their aggressive approach. Jaiswal and Rahul added a quick 50-run opening stand, with Rahul contributing a fluent 55. Rishabh Pant (65) and Gill (161) shared a 110-run fourth-wicket partnership, before Gill and Jadeja added 175 more runs. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 69 as India declared at 427/6, setting England an enormous target of 608.

England’s chase faltered early, with the top order falling cheaply. Jamie Smith once again fought back with a solid 88, but the rest of the batting lineup crumbled under the pressure. Akash Deep returned to destroy the English resistance with a brilliant 6/99, finishing with ten wickets in the match and sealing a historic victory for India.
