IND vs NZ 3rd ODI: Gill and Rohit’s tons seal India’s clean-sweep against listless New Zealand

India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI (BCCI)

The Indian cricket team completed a clean sweep against New Zealand in the ODI series with a 90-run victory in the third match in Indore on January 24th, 2023. The match was played at the Holkar Stadium and saw an impressive display from both teams’ batters, with 680 runs scored in total.

Rohit Sharma, who hadn’t scored an ODI hundred in three years, finally reached the milestone, scoring 101 off 85 balls. He was joined by Shubman Gill who continued his impressive form with another century, scoring 112 off 78 balls. Together, the two openers put on a 212-run partnership, hitting 22 fours and 11 sixes between them.

Despite the strong performance from the Indian team, New Zealand put up a much better show in this match compared to the previous two. Devon Conway, who scored 138 runs, was able to stitch crucial partnerships with other players, but India’s bowlers, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav, regularly struck and were able to bowl out the Black Caps for 295 in 41.2 overs.

In the absence of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, the Indian bowlers struggled initially, leaking runs as Conway dominated the game. However, Thakur managed to turn the match in India’s favor by taking back-to-back wickets in the 26th over. The spin duo of Kuldeep and Yuzvendra Chahal then cleaned up the tail.

India’s middle order collapsed as usual, but Hardik Pandya provided a final flourish with a score of 54 off 38 balls. This was India’s second consecutive clean sweep, following their victory against Sri Lanka the previous week. The match was a high-scoring affair, with both teams putting on an impressive display of batting. However, in the end, India’s bowlers were able to secure the victory and seal the series sweep.
