After the announcement of Nitish Rana as new captain of Kolkata Knight Riders today, we now have the updated and complete list of all ten captains who will be leading their teams in 2023 edition of IPL.

Earlier Aiden Markram was announced as the new captain by Sunrisers Hyderabad ending months long controversy. Here is the complete list of all IPL captains that will lead their teams in IPL 2023 along with full squad for each team this year.

Faf Du Plessis, Aiden Markram and David Warner are the only three overseas captains in the tournament.

MS Dhoni, the former Indian cricket team captain, has been contracted by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for US$1.5 million. This made him the most expensive player in the IPL during the first season auction. Dhoni is at the top of the list of most matches played in the Indian Premier League, having played 200 T20 matches for Super Kings.

After the injury Rishabh Pant, David Warner is all set to captain the Delhi Capitals side in IPL 2023 this year. After Sunrisers Hyderabad chose not to retain Warner, he entered the 2022 IPL auction with a base price of ₹2 crores as one of the marquee players. In the auction, he was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crores.

Hardik Pandya played for the Mumbai Indians from 2015 to 2021. Nitish Rana has replaced Shreyas Iyer who is still recovering from a back injury. Nitish Rana has been with KKR since 2018, scoring 1,744 runs in 74 matches at an average of 26.02, including 11 half-centuries and a highest score of 87. In his entire IPL career, which also includes his time at Mumbai Indians from 2015-17, he has scored 2,181 runs in 91 matches with an average of 28.32 and a strike rate of 134.22.

Shikhar Dhawan, the opening batsman for India, has been named as the new skipper of Punjab Kings, replacing Mayank Agarwal for the 2023 edition. Dhawan was selected as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad team prior to the start of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 tournament. He was later replaced by Darren Sammy as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2014 Indian Premier League. On 25 April 2022, in a match against the Chennai Super Kings, Dhawan played his 200th match of the Tata IPL and achieved the 6000 run milestone, becoming the second player to do so after Virat Kohli.
