
The Delhi Capitals made significant acquisitions during the first session of Day 2 of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis and Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar emerged as key additions to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.
Faf du Plessis, a two-time IPL champion with the Chennai Super Kings, was picked up by the Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore. The former South African captain has an impressive IPL record, scoring 4,571 runs in 145 matches with 37 half-centuries. Last season, he led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the playoffs, showcasing his leadership and consistency.

On acquiring the seasoned batter, Sourav Ganguly, Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals (WPL) and JSW Sports, expressed his delight. “Faf has been exceptional in this format. He had a terrific CPL and MLC. Beyond his batting, his leadership qualities are invaluable, and we’re thrilled to have secured him at this price.”
Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar was retained by Delhi Capitals using the Right to Match (RTM) card for ₹8 crore. Mukesh, who debuted for DC in 2023, has since risen to prominence, making his debut for Team India in all three formats the same year.
In the previous IPL season, Mukesh delivered a standout performance, taking 17 wickets in 10 matches. His retention solidifies Delhi’s pace attack, which now includes Mitchell Starc, T. Natarajan, and Mohit Sharma.
Venugopal Rao, Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals (IPL), emphasized the team’s strategic planning. “Our bowling lineup is experienced with the likes of Starc, Natarajan, Mohit, and Mukesh. Combined with spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, we are confident our bowlers will be pivotal in winning the title.”
