IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Major Signings Highlight Intense Bidding Wars

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah saw franchises break the bank for top-tier players, with intense bidding wars marking the event. Among the standout acquisitions were Yuzvendra Chahal, KL Rahul, and several international stars, as teams vied to strengthen their rosters for the upcoming season.

Indian spin maestro Yuzvendra Chahal was snapped up by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for ₹18 crores, making him one of the most expensive players in this year’s auction.

Chahal, the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, was the subject of a fierce bidding war involving Gujarat Titans (GT), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and PBKS. His final move to Punjab Kings ensures that the franchise gains a proven match-winner with a remarkable IPL record of 205 wickets in 160 matches at an average of 22.44.

“They said: Some spin magic ✨ #PBKS said: Yuzvendra Chahal is OURS,” tweeted IPL’s official handle.

Chahal, who won the Purple Cap in 2022 with 27 wickets, has consistently delivered for both Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), and his presence is expected to significantly boost PBKS’s bowling lineup.

Versatile Indian batter KL Rahul was roped in by Delhi Capitals (DC) for ₹14 crores, following a bidding war with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Rahul’s acquisition provides DC with a top-order batter, a captaincy option, and a wicketkeeper. A consistent performer in the IPL, Rahul has amassed 4,683 runs in 132 matches at an average of 45.47, including four centuries and 37 fifties.

“KLASSSSS KL Rahul is acquired by @DelhiCapitals for INR 14 Crore,” tweeted IPL’s official handle.

Rahul’s leadership experience and batting versatility make him a key player for DC as they look to build a championship-winning squad.

Indian pace veteran Mohammed Shami was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for ₹10 crores. Known for his exceptional swing and death-over bowling, Shami adds firepower to SRH’s pace attack.

Shami, who took the Purple Cap during Gujarat Titans’ 2023 campaign, has 127 IPL wickets in 110 matches at an average of 26.86. His experience and skill will be crucial as SRH aims to rebuild their bowling unit.

“You want pace, you get pace! Mohammad Shami joins #SRH for INR 10 Crore,” tweeted IPL’s official handle.

England’s all-rounder Liam Livingstone was acquired by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for ₹8.75 crores.

A T20 World Cup winner known for his explosive batting and handy spin, Livingstone brings depth to RCB’s lineup. In IPL, he has scored 939 runs in 39 matches at a strike rate of 162.46 and taken 11 wickets.

“Liam Livingstone is SOLD to @RCBTweets for INR 8.75 Crore,” announced IPL on social media.

South Africa’s David Miller was signed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for ₹7.5 crores. A master finisher, Miller’s IPL record includes 2,473 runs at an average of 32.54, with a strike rate of 140.

“David Miller moves to #LSG! SOLD for INR 7.5 Crore,” tweeted IPL’s official handle.

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was another marquee signing, moving to Gujarat Titans (GT) for ₹12.25 crores.
