IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Shreyas Iyer Breaks Records, Other Star Players Land Big Deals

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction turned out to be a historic event with intense bidding wars, record-breaking signings, and top-tier talent being snapped up by franchises. The highlight of the auction was Shreyas Iyer, who set a new IPL record as Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured his services for a staggering ₹26.75 crore.

Shreyas Iyer Joins Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 Crore

Indian batting star Shreyas Iyer became the most expensive player in IPL history when PBKS outbid Delhi Capitals (DC) in a heated bidding war. The bidding started with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at ₹2 crore but quickly escalated as DC and PBKS went head-to-head, with the latter finally sealing the deal at ₹26.75 crore.

Iyer, a former captain of both DC and KKR, brings immense leadership and batting prowess to PBKS. Over his IPL career, he has amassed 2,375 runs at an average of 31.67, with 16 half-centuries. Known for his ability to anchor innings, Iyer led KKR to their third IPL title earlier this year, marking their first championship in a decade. His inclusion strengthens PBKS’ batting lineup and adds a proven leader to their ranks.

PBKS Retains Arshdeep Singh Using RTM for ₹18 Crores

PBKS retained left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh using the Right-to-Match (RTM) card after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) raised the bid to ₹18 crore. Arshdeep, a vital part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad this year, has been a consistent performer for PBKS since his IPL debut in 2019.

With 76 wickets in 65 matches at an average of 27.00, Arshdeep is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is despite debuting only in 2022. His ability to swing the ball and deliver in crucial moments makes him a cornerstone of PBKS’ bowling attack.

Kagiso Rabada Moves to Gujarat Titans for ₹10.75 Crore

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada was snapped up by Gujarat Titans (GT) for ₹10.75 crore after a three-way bidding war with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI).

Rabada, known for his lethal pace and accuracy, has been a standout performer in the IPL, taking 117 wickets in 80 matches. His addition bolsters GT’s pace attack as they aim for their second IPL title.

Jos Buttler Joins Gujarat Titans for ₹15.75 Crore

England’s Jos Buttler, one of the finest white-ball batters in the world, was acquired by GT for ₹15.75 crore. Buttler’s IPL journey has been illustrious, with 3,055 runs for Rajasthan Royals (RR) at a strike rate of 147.79, including seven centuries.

The T20 World Cup-winning captain’s aggressive top-order batting will be a significant asset for GT, providing explosive starts and a wealth of experience.

Mitchell Starc Returns with Delhi Capitals for ₹11.75 Crore

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc made his way to DC for ₹11.75 crore. Known for his lethal yorkers and consistency, Starc has 51 IPL wickets in 41 matches and was the most expensive player in IPL history when KKR acquired him in 2024 for ₹24.75 crore.

Starc’s ability to perform in high-pressure situations, as evidenced by his stellar playoff performances last season, makes him a key addition to DC’s bowling arsenal.
