India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has started his recovery process after being ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed his absence on Tuesday night, citing a lower back injury.

Bumrah took to Instagram on Thursday to share a glimpse of his gym workout, signaling his determination to make a strong comeback. The 31-year-old posted a picture from inside a gym with the caption “rebuilding,” hinting at his recovery journey.

The BCCI’s official statement announced that Harshit Rana would replace Bumrah in the squad. “Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement,” the statement read.

Bumrah has been out of action since January, with his last international appearance coming during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney. He bowled 10.1 overs in the first innings before experiencing discomfort, which led to scans and medical advice from Australian doctors recommending rest. Although he came out to bat in the second innings, he was unable to resume bowling duties.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, an eight-team tournament featuring 15 matches, is scheduled to be held from February 19 to March 9 across Pakistan and the UAE. Due to security concerns, India will play its matches in Dubai under a hybrid model. The much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash is set for February 23, while India will open its campaign against Bangladesh on February 20. Their final league match will be against New Zealand on March 2.
