KL Rahul Becomes Second Indian to Score Multiple Test Centuries at Lord’s After Vengsarkar

KL Rahul added another milestone to his Test career on Saturday, becoming only the second Indian batter after Dilip Vengsarkar to score multiple centuries at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. His latest ton came during the second session on Day 3 of the third Test against England in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where he reached the hundred-mark in 177 balls, including 13 boundaries.

Rahul’s achievement places him in elite company, as Vengsarkar is the only other Indian to have scored more than one Test century at Lord’s, having done so three times during his career. This latest century also marked Rahul’s fourth Test hundred on English soil, placing him joint second among Indian batters alongside Sachin Tendulkar, Rishabh Pant, and Vengsarkar. Only Rahul Dravid, with six centuries, has more in England.

With this knock, Rahul now holds the record for most Test centuries by an Indian or any Asian opener in England, having reached three tons as an opener. His consistency in overseas conditions, especially in SENA countries — South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia — stands out this decade. Rahul has scored five Test centuries in SENA nations since 2020, the most by any Indian batter in the 2020s so far. He is followed by Rishabh Pant (4), Shubman Gill (3), Yashasvi Jaiswal (2), and Ravindra Jadeja (1).

The 33-year-old opener has also scored the most runs among all Indian openers in SENA countries in this decade. He has accumulated 1129 runs in 14 matches. Trailing him are Rohit Sharma with 691 runs in 11 matches, Jaiswal with 674 runs in 10 matches, Gill with 347 runs in six matches, and Mayank Agarwal with 268 runs in seven matches.

In the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England, Rahul has continued his strong form. He has scored 337 runs in five innings across three Tests at an impressive average of 67.40, which includes two centuries and a fifty. He is currently the fourth-highest run-scorer in the series.

Overall in his Test career, KL Rahul has scored 3593 runs from 103 innings in 61 matches, with 10 centuries and 18 half-centuries at an average of 35.57. His performances, particularly as an opener in challenging overseas conditions, continue to underline his value to the Indian Test side.
