Madan Lal Hails India’s Bowling Attack as “Best in the World” After Perth Triumph

Former Indian cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal has praised India’s bowling unit, labeling it the “best in the world” following their emphatic 295-run victory over Australia in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. The team’s comprehensive performance has set the tone for the series and reignited hopes of India reaching a third consecutive ICC World Test Championship final.

India’s victory in Perth was remarkable, especially given the absence of key players, including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin. The team’s ability to perform seamlessly across all departments underscored their depth and resilience.

“India played excellent cricket, and the best thing is that our bowling attack is the best in the world,” Madan Lal remarked. “We have the best spinner and the best fast bowler, and that’s the reason we have won.”

India’s batting unit delivered crucial contributions, with KL Rahul (77), Yashasvi Jaiswal (161), and Virat Kohli (100*) leading the charge. Their efforts ensured India posted formidable totals, giving the bowlers a platform to dominate.

“I must appreciate Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli,” said Madan Lal. “These three batsmen have done a great job. They played very well, and the bounce on the fourth day made it even more challenging for the Australians.”

Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was at the forefront of India’s success. With match figures of 8/72, including several “unplayable” deliveries, Bumrah ensured Australia’s batters were under constant pressure. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

“A captain is as good as his team, but if a captain leads from the front like Jasprit Bumrah, it is very good for the team,” Madan Lal noted. “Bumrah ensured the tempo remained high, and India stayed relentless in their attack.”

Madan Lal also highlighted Bumrah’s potential to trouble the Australian batting lineup throughout the series. “Batters with 8,000-plus runs are struggling against him. How will Australia’s relatively inexperienced top order handle him?”

Bumrah received crucial support from Mohammed Siraj and debutant Harshit Rana, who picked up key wickets at pivotal moments. Their contributions underlined India’s strength in depth and complemented Bumrah’s brilliance.

India’s 295-run victory was not just a statement win but also a rare achievement on a traditionally challenging Perth pitch. “The first Test in Australia is always important, especially in Perth, where results usually go against touring teams,” Madan Lal explained. “India’s performance here has set up the series as a fascinating contest.”
