Chasing a target of 186, Mumbai’s openers, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, set the game ablaze with their aggressive batting, bringing the team’s score beyond the 50-run mark.
The 65-run partnership between the openers was finally broken by Suyash Sharma, who dismissed Rohit for 20. As Kishan continued his red-hot form, he completed a 21-ball half-century in the 8th over. However, Varun Chakaravarthy claimed Kishan’s wicket after he scored a 52 off just 22 balls. MI batters continued rotating the strike and hitting loose balls, with Tim David eventually securing their victory in the 18th over.
Earlier, Venkatesh Iyer scored the first century for KKR in 15 years, finishing with a knock of 104 off 51 balls. Arjun Tendulkar, making his MI debut, kicked off the game with an impactful over. MI found an early breakthrough with the dismissal of N Jagadeesan for a duck. Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer attempted to steady KKR’s innings, but Rana lost his wicket to Hrithik Shokeen.
Despite wickets falling around him, Venkatesh Iyer continued to score at regular intervals. He was eventually dismissed in the 18th over by Riley Meredith after scoring 104 runs, including six fours and nine sixes.
