Mohammad Azharuddin Advocates for Indian Mentors in Abu Dhabi T10 to Boost UAE Cricket

Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin has once again taken on a mentorship role, this time with the Northern Warriors in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 League. Azharuddin, a legendary figure in cricket with 99 Test caps to his name, returned to the Warriors after a three-year hiatus, aiming to guide the team to their third trophy.

Under Azharuddin’s mentorship, the Northern Warriors started their campaign with a dominant seven-wicket victory, showcasing their intent for the season. Speaking after the match, the 61-year-old praised the growth of cricket talent in the UAE and emphasized the importance of experienced players in nurturing local skills.

Reflecting on his observations, Azharuddin highlighted the progress of UAE players over recent years, drawing attention to the contributions of young talents like Uzair Khan, who impressed with figures of 1/18 in his four overs during the opening match.

“It is very important to have experienced players here in the Abu Dhabi T10 to develop local talent,” Azharuddin stated in an official league release. “I’ve been here several times, and a couple of years ago, I even held a seven-day camp for UAE players. There are some good players emerging in the UAE, but they need consistent training and participation in competitive tournaments to reach their full potential.”

Azharuddin also underlined the potential impact of involving Indian players and coaches in the league. He believes their expertise could significantly enhance the development of cricket in the UAE while adding value to the league itself.

“Indian players must be called for Abu Dhabi T10 as coaches and mentors,” he said. “I am confident they would be eager to guide young players and share their knowledge. This would not only help grow the league but also contribute to the advancement of UAE cricket.”
