Mohammed Siraj Fined for Code of Conduct Breach During Day 4 of Lord’s Test

India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth day of the third Test against England at Lord’s on Sunday. The penalty comes after an on-field incident where Siraj celebrated Ben Duckett’s dismissal in close proximity, making contact with the batter as he began his walk back to the pavilion.

The offense falls under Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with the use of language, gestures, or actions that could provoke an aggressive reaction from the dismissed batter. Siraj’s actions were deemed to have crossed the line during his follow-through after taking the wicket.

Along with the fine, Siraj received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. This marks his second offense within a 24-month period, raising his total to two demerit points. If a player accumulates four or more demerit points in that time frame, they are converted into suspension points, leading to a ban from international matches.

“Find this ridiculous: Broad slams ICC for fining Siraj for aggressive celebration at Lord’s

Former England pacer Stuart Broad has criticized the ICC’s decision to fine Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj for his aggressive celebration during the Lord’s Test, calling it “ridiculous.” Siraj was fined 15 percent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for celebrating closely after dismissing Ben Duckett, which was deemed a breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Broad, expressing his views on social media, questioned the lack of consistency in the ICC’s disciplinary actions. He pointed out that Indian captain Shubman Gill was seen using explicit language on live TV during the same match but faced no sanction. Broad argued that players shouldn’t be treated like robots, emphasizing that either both actions should be penalized or neither, calling for fair and uniform application of the rules.
