As Mumbai Indians (MI) prepare for their highly anticipated encounter with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), batting coach Kieron Pollard emphasizes the importance of executing their game plan. The match, set to take place on Saturday at Wankhede Stadium, will see MI face off against the four-time champion CSK.
Pollard expressed his enthusiasm during a pre-match press conference, saying, “The match between Mumbai and Chennai is a big game. Everything needs to be done as per the plan we have set for our opponents.” With a 62% win rate in the 71 IPL matches played at Wankhede Stadium, MI’s Class of ’23 is eager to elevate their performance.
In a recent match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, MI youngsters Nehal Wadhera and Arshad Khan impressed with rapid 21 and 15 run knocks, respectively. Despite an 8-wicket loss, Pollard praised the duo and expressed optimism for their future: “Nehal Wadhera and Arshad Khan were hitting well. We look forward to things for them, it has just started.”
Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, Pollard downplayed the need for any one player to shoulder the burden of success. Acknowledging MI’s less-than-ideal start, he maintained that the team still managed a decent total against Bangalore and remained optimistic about their upcoming match at Wankhede.
MI will be closely watching Suryakumar Yadav’s performance against CSK’s experienced attack, following his dismissal by Michael Bracewell for only 15 runs in the RCB match. Pollard expressed unwavering confidence in Surya, saying, “we have more confidence in the way he is striking the ball and the way he is training.”
20-year-old Tilak Verma has also caught the attention of MI’s batting coach, after scoring an impressive 84 runs off just 46 balls in a match against RCB. Pollard praised the young talent, stating, “Tilak is a fine new talent. He has a lot of potentials. He as the second-highest run-getter, He just needs to continue.”
