Legendary former cricketer Wasim Akram has named Pakistan as one of the favorites to win the tournament. In a conversation with Sports Tak, Akram cited Pakistan’s star-studded lineup as a major factor behind his prediction.
He specifically noted their formidable fast-bowling unit, featuring Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Hasnain, as a key strength that will make the team a strong contender. Additionally, Akram praised Shaheen Afridi’s improved batting skills, considering it a significant advantage for the Men in Green.
On being asked if he can tag Pakistan the favourites to win the mega event this year, Akram stated:
“Of course, I will. Our captain is a great player and we have one of the best fast-bowling lineups in the world. Shaheen Afridi is currently in prime form. He is developing pretty well as an all-rounder. Then there is Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah. Hasnain is there, Ihsanullah is an exciting young fast bowler. I think because the World Cup is happening in India, it is the team with the stronger bowling attack that will succeed.”
However, Pakistan’s World Cup preparations began on a disappointing note, with a 1-2 loss to New Zealand on home turf. They will face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, which kicks off this Friday.
