Perth Test smashes Attendance and Viewership Records in historic high

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener at Perth Stadium has shattered attendance and viewership records, reflecting the immense excitement around the series. Days one and two of the Test saw the largest single-day crowds for Test cricket in Perth’s history, with 31,302 and 32,368 spectators attending respectively. The total attendance across all days reached 96,463, the highest ever at Perth Stadium and the second-highest in the city’s history, according to Cricket Australia.

This year’s Perth Test saw a staggering 63% increase in attendance compared to the previous year and a 30% rise in average TV viewership, underscoring the series’ popularity. Notably, the match dominated television ratings, with seven sessions averaging over 1 million viewers across platforms, including a peak of 1.6 million viewers during the third session of Day 1.

The Test match also drove record-breaking digital engagement. Cricket Australia reported that 2.7 million Australians accessed cricket.com.au and the Cricket Australia Live app during the match, with a global audience of 8.4 million users. Video views on these platforms increased by 30% compared to the first Test of the previous summer, while social media channels saw a massive 259 million video views globally during the match.

Fans benefited from expanded streaming options, including 7plus Sport, making it the first time Test cricket was available on this platform alongside Kayo Sports, Foxtel Go, and Foxtel Now.

The excitement extended beyond the Border-Gavaskar series, as the Perth Scorchers set an attendance record during their Weber WBBL match at the WACA Ground on the evening of Day 2. Together, these events brought in over 100,000 cricket fans to Perth venues over four days.

Ticket sales for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy have surged, with figures more than 2.5 times higher than those for India’s 2018-19 tour. Public tickets for Day 1 at The Gabba in Brisbane are already sold out, and large crowds are anticipated in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets early as demand remains high.
