Pravin Tambe and Daniel Marsh join as coaches for ‘Gujarat Giants’ ahead of WPL 2025 auction

In preparation for the highly anticipated 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) player auction, Gujarat Giants have announced significant changes to their coaching staff. Pravin Tambe has been appointed as the new bowling coach, while former Australian cricketer Daniel Marsh takes over as the batting coach. Michael Klinger will continue in his role as head coach, a position he has held since last season.

The changes are part of Gujarat Giants’ efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming WPL season. Daniel Marsh, with extensive experience in Australian domestic cricket and coaching, is expected to bring a fresh approach to the team’s batting. Marsh, who has scored over 11,000 runs across formats in his career, previously coached the Tasmania Men’s team and served as Assistant Coach for the Australian Women’s Cricket Team.

“I am excited to be joining Gujarat Giants and look forward to helping develop a fearless batting approach. Our aim is to become one of the strongest batting units in the WPL,” Marsh said.

Pravin Tambe, known for his inspiring IPL debut at the age of 41 with Rajasthan Royals in 2013, adds significant coaching expertise to the bowling department. Tambe has previously worked with IPL franchises Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants. Reflecting on his new role, Tambe said, “Joining Gujarat Giants as the Bowling Coach is an exciting chapter in my journey. I look forward to working with this talented group of players to refine their skills and help them excel.”

Head coach Michael Klinger expressed confidence in the team’s direction, emphasizing the groundwork laid last season. “We’ve retained a talented group of players who continue to gain invaluable experience. Our focus is on fostering a winning mindset and pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve as a team,” Klinger said.

As excitement builds for the WPL 2025 season, the player auction, scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru, will see 120 players going under the hammer. The list includes 91 Indian and 29 overseas cricketers, with 82 uncapped Indian players and eight uncapped overseas players. Teams can fill up to 19 slots, including five for overseas players.
