India captain Rohit Sharma has lauded the performances of debutants Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy following their impressive displays in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. Speaking ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, Rohit highlighted the duo’s talent and potential to make significant contributions to the team in the future.
Both Harshit and Nitish had a memorable debut during India’s 295-run victory in Perth. Nitish, a 21-year-old all-rounder, scored 79 runs across both innings, emerging as India’s top scorer in the first innings. He also chipped in with a crucial wicket in the fourth innings. Meanwhile, Harshit Rana made an impact with the ball, claiming three wickets in the first innings and adding another in the second to trouble the Australian batting lineup.

“It was very impressive to watch them,” Rohit said during the pre-match press conference. “I had only heard things about them and seen them in IPL games and T20 matches. But watching them in the Perth Test, it never felt like they were playing their first game. Right from the start, they were involved and showed great body language.”
Rohit emphasized the importance of having players like Harshit and Nitish in the squad for major series. “Both these guys were up for the battle and showed the kind of attitude we need. It’s a very impressive start to their careers, and I hope they continue to perform and contribute to the team for as long as possible,” he added.
