
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was honored with the prestigious Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the BCCI Awards 2025 in Mumbai on Saturday. Known as the God of Cricket, Tendulkar is celebrated for his extraordinary skill and achievements, entertaining cricket fans worldwide from 1989 to 2013. The Mumbai-born batting maestro made his Test debut on November 15, 1989, at just 16 years old, and played his first ODI on December 18 the same year. Over a 24-year international career, he set records that remain unmatched in cricket history.

Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in international cricket, amassing 34,357 runs across 664 matches at an average of 48.52. He holds the unique distinction of scoring 100 international centuries, alongside 164 half-centuries. He was also the first cricketer to score a double century in ODIs and remains the only player to have played 200 Test matches. In ODIs, he scored 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83, including 49 centuries and 96 fifties. In Test cricket, he accumulated 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78, with 51 centuries and 68 half-centuries.
One of the defining moments of Tendulkar’s illustrious career was winning the ICC Cricket World Cup with India in 2011. Having made his World Cup debut in 1992, he finally realized his dream of lifting the trophy after six attempts. His contributions to Indian cricket extended to the IPL as well, where he played for the Mumbai Indians from 2008 to 2013, winning the tournament in his final season.
Tendulkar will soon be back on the cricket field in the International Masters League (IML), set to take place in Mumbai. The league will feature retired legends of the game, with matches scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM. The opening match on February 22, 2025, will be a high-profile clash between India and Sri Lanka, with Tendulkar leading the Indian side against a Sri Lankan team captained by Kumar Sangakkara.
Speaking about the league, Tendulkar expressed his excitement for the competition. “The IML will be a celebration of cricket’s unique and enduring legacy. I can’t wait to step back onto the field with my contemporaries in a league that will be intense and competitive, with all the teams playing hard, but fair,” he said in an IML press release.
