Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shikhar Dhawan, Tim Southee, and Shane Watson Named ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Ambassadors

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced four cricketing legends as ambassadors for the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, India’s Shikhar Dhawan, Australia’s Shane Watson, and New Zealand’s Tim Southee will serve as event ambassadors for the tournament, which is set to take place from February 19 to March 9.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led Pakistan to their maiden ICC Champions Trophy title in 2017, expressed his excitement about being named an ambassador for the event. Reflecting on the iconic moment when he lifted the trophy, Sarfaraz called it one of the most cherished memories of his career.

“I will never forget how special it felt to don the white jackets and lift the trophy as Pakistan captain back in 2017. Seeing the nation get behind us and celebrate that success is something very close to my heart,” he said, as quoted by the ICC.

As the Champions Trophy returns to the international cricket calendar, Sarfaraz is delighted that Pakistan will host the prestigious event. “The format ensures that every game is crucial, and I can’t wait to witness the tournament firsthand as an Ambassador,” he added.

India’s Shikhar Dhawan, widely regarded as one of the greatest performers in Champions Trophy history, is another fitting choice as an event ambassador. The left-handed batter remains India’s highest run-scorer in Champions Trophy history and the third-highest overall, with 701 runs across two editions, including three centuries. His explosive performances in 2013 and 2017 cemented his legacy in the competition.

“It is such a special feeling to be part of a Champions Trophy, and to be given the opportunity to enjoy the upcoming edition as an Ambassador is an honour,” Dhawan said. “Over the next few weeks, we will see the best teams in the world battling for the white jackets, knowing that one mistake or one loss could end their journey. That is what makes this tournament such a thrilling spectacle.”

Recently retired New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, who played in multiple Champions Trophy editions, expressed his enthusiasm about being part of the 2025 edition as an ambassador.

“I am thrilled to be an Ambassador for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. It is an event that I always enjoyed playing in and one that always delivers on entertainment and drama,” Southee stated. “As a player, you’re aware that every game, every ball, and every moment matters in the Champions Trophy format. With so much at stake, I can’t wait to see how the action unfolds.”

Australia’s Shane Watson, a two-time ICC Champions Trophy winner and one of the best all-rounders in limited-overs cricket, believes the event stands out as a unique competition.

“The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy is a truly unique event that has given us so many unforgettable moments over the years,” Watson remarked. “With the top eight teams going head-to-head for the iconic white jackets, we are sure to witness extraordinary, do-or-die cricket over three thrilling weeks.”
