  • by

A stellar performance from Jayden Seales and a blazing half-century by Brandon King powered the West Indies to a dominant seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second ODI at Warner Park, Basseterre, on Tuesday night. The victory gave the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Chasing a target of 228, the Windies opened with a formidable 109-run partnership between King and Evin Lewis. King smashed 82 off 76 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes, while Lewis contributed a solid 49 off 62 balls. Although Rishad Hossain dismissed Lewis to claim the first breakthrough, the West Indies remained firmly in control.

Keacy Carty (45 off 47 balls) built on the momentum with a crucial 66-run stand with King before Nahid Rana dismissed the opener. By then, the damage was done, and skipper Shai Hope (17 off 21 balls) and Sherfane Rutherford (24 off 15 balls) sealed the win with 79 balls to spare.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat but struggled against the Windies’ bowling attack. Jayden Seales delivered a match-winning spell, taking 4/32 and dismantling the visitors’ top order. Gudakesh Motie also chipped in with two wickets, while Marquino Mindley, Romario Shepherd, Justin Greaves, and Roston Chase claimed one wicket each.

Bangladesh’s innings was anchored by Mahmudullah (62 off 92 balls) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (45 off 62 balls), who helped the team recover to post a total of 227 after early setbacks. Tanzid Hasan (46 off 33 balls) provided a quick start, but the rest of the top order failed to capitalize.

Bangladesh’s bowlers struggled during the run chase, with only Nahid Rana, Rishad Hossain, and Afif Hossain managing to take wickets.

Jayden Seales was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance, which set the tone for the Windies’ commanding victory. The teams will meet again for the final ODI, but the series is already decided in favor of the hosts.

Brief score:

  • Bangladesh 227 (Mahmudullah 62, Tanzid Hasan 46; Jayden Seales 4/22)
  • West Indies 230/3 (Brandon King 82, Evin Lewis 49; Afif Hossain 1/12).
