Seattle Orcas’ Sikandar Raza Fined for Dissent as LA Knight Riders End Losing Streak in MLC 2025

Seattle Orcas all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been penalized for breaching the Major League Cricket (MLC) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against the LA Knight Riders, held on Sunday, June 22, 2025. According to the MLC website, Raza committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision. He accepted the charge and was fined 15% of his match fee after being reported by the on-field umpires.

The disciplinary action came on a day when the Seattle Orcas endured their fourth straight defeat of the season, as the Los Angeles Knight Riders secured a convincing six-wicket win at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The result ended LAKR’s three-match losing streak and offered a much-needed lift to their MLC 2025 campaign.

Seattle Orcas had earlier set a target of 178, finishing their innings at 177/6 after a promising start from the top order. Shayan Jahangir and David Warner launched the innings aggressively, scoring 33 runs within the first 3.3 overs before Jahangir was dismissed by Jason Holder for a quick 26. Warner continued alongside Aaron Jones, taking the total to 85 by the 11th over, but fell to Andre Russell for 38.

Jones built his innings steadily before accelerating with some clean hits, including a six each off Corne Dry and Russell, ending with 44 off 36 deliveries. However, Seattle’s momentum waned in the final phase as their middle order faltered. Despite a solid platform, they managed just 39 runs in the last four overs. Kyle Mayers and Heinrich Klaasen were unable to push the scoring rate, while Andre Russell turned the screws with a disciplined final over that yielded only two runs and saw the dismissal of Shimron Hetmyer.

In reply, LAKR stumbled early, losing two wickets for just seven runs inside the first three overs. But Unmukt Chand steadied the innings with a measured yet fluent knock. He guided LAKR to 45/2 by the end of the powerplay, keeping the chase on track with well-timed boundaries against Gannon and Harmeet Singh.

At the halfway mark, LAKR were 72/2, slightly behind the required rate. That changed dramatically when Chand unleashed a brutal assault in the 11th over, plundering 20 runs off Gerald Coetzee with two sixes and two fours. His batting partner, Saif Badar, joined in with a flurry of boundaries, and their 139-run third-wicket stand turned the game decisively in LAKR’s favor.

Badar eventually departed for an impressive 54 off 32, while Rovman Powell’s brief stay ended without impact. However, Chand remained composed, finishing unbeaten on 86 off 58 balls and securing victory alongside Sherfane Rutherford with ten balls to spare.

The win lifted LA Knight Riders out of a slump, while the Seattle Orcas remained winless in the competition.
