Pakistan cricketers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam have been fined for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their tri-nation series match against South Africa in Karachi. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the sanctions on Thursday, penalizing the players for separate incidents that occurred during the match.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined 25 percent of his match fee for violating Article 2.12 of the ICC Code, which prohibits inappropriate physical contact with a player, umpire, match referee, or spectator during an international match. The incident occurred in the 28th over of South Africa’s innings when Shaheen deliberately obstructed batter Matthew Breetzke while he was running a single. The obstruction led to physical contact and a tense exchange between the two players.

Meanwhile, Saud Shakeel and substitute fielder Kamran Ghulam were fined 10 percent of their match fees for celebrating too closely to South African batter Temba Bavuma following his run-out in the 29th over. Their actions were deemed a breach of Article 2.5 of the Code, which pertains to using language, actions, or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a dismissed batter.
In addition to the monetary penalties, all three players have received one demerit point each on their disciplinary records. However, since none of them had any prior offences in the last 24 months, the penalties do not lead to any suspensions.
The players accepted the sanctions imposed by the ICC, eliminating the need for formal hearings.
Despite these disciplinary setbacks, Pakistan registered a historic victory over South Africa to secure a place in the tri-nation series final. They will now face New Zealand in the title match on February 14.
